Top decks of the format

So we were just hit with a huge shocker of a ban list that took out pretty much all of the top meta decks. This ban list also is different because it only lasts 4 months meaning that the game will be more up to date and broken cards will likely not last as long. So now that dragon rulers and spellbooks are dead, what will be in the meta? Here are our predictions. (These are not in any particular order, we will also add as we see fit.)

1. Mermails are still present - although they are weakened, they are still a serious deck. Expect to see this deck a lot in tournaments because no one wants to ever just give up on a deck and with a lot of backrow gone they may be just as good as ever even after being hit.

2. Fire Fist are on the same boat as mermails - although they were hit a little harder they will still be fairly consistent and with bear being released in the upcoming tins fire fists will be more available than ever before meaning there will be more of them!

3. Evilswarm are hit or miss - With rabbit to 1 there consistency is a little lower but they were a strong deck before and expect that to continue because they were hit the least out of the previous tier 1 decks.

4. Blackwings are back! - bringing black whirlwind to 3 may not seem like a big deal to those of you that never played blackwings but trust me, it is very big. This gives the deck back the consistency it craves! The player favorite of the synchro-era is also being revived with new synchros that can run seamlessly with this deck and plenty of XYZ are also usuable in it.

5. Lightsworn is still amazing and it may get even more support! - Lightsworn have stayed rather average for the past couple formats but with the top decks taking huge hits lightswornt can be brought back into the spotlight. There are also reports that 3 new lightsworn cards are going to be released which would most likely make them the top deck of the format and possibly the next.

Chaos Dragons 1.4 - March 2013 Banlist

Here is my most updated Chaos Dragons. This is the build I ran at regionals on May 4th in Maplewood Minnesota. I did okay with it, I lost 2 rounds early do to being very tired from staying up the night before and with my sleepiness I made some stupid mistakes. I would have gone 5-1 throughout the first 6 if I had been playing right so the deck is very good. The only deck that would have beaten this either way was frog-monarchs. The stalling and negating of effects from that deck was able to stall the game out long enough that my entire deck was basically in the graveyard. But overall I am very pleased with the performance of this deck. I will probably be making a video of this build soon as well.

Upcoming Deck Profiles

In the next couple of weeks we will be revamping almost all of our decks and preparing some new ones. Some of the upcoming deck profiles are Six-Samurai, Chaos Dragons 1.4, Vylon, Chronomaly, Inzektor, and some of the new decks coming out in Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy, Elemental Dragons and Burning Knucklers. We will be attending regionals!

Just a quick update for everyone. Both Austin Angell the other auther on this blog and myself will be attending the regionals in Maplewood, Minnesota on May 4. What I hope to see in Judgement of the Light

Judgment of the Light comes out in one month for the OCG, and there are two things I am hoping to see and a third that I already know we will. So starting with the part we already know, synchros. A few of the synchros that will be released in this booster pack have already been unveiled and so far, I like them. We have been running off the same synchros for a while now and it's about time we get some new ones to kick the extra deck up another level. Starform Dragon looks especially fun, go look it up if you haven't already seen it. The next thing I hope to see in JotL is Agents. Agents have been neglected for a little too long now and I think giving them a synchro would bring them back into the spotlight, maybe not top tier but enough to be noticed. An xyz monster for them would be interesting as well. The last thing I want to see is a revival of Lightsworn. Much like MegaCapitalG (from youtube if you haven't heard of him) I want to see Lightsworn brought back and I want it to be broken. What would really make me jump on the Lightsworn train again would be a synchro or xyz that has an effect similair to JD. A rank 3 xyz that requires 3 level 3 with 2500 attack and an ability to detach and either destroy all spell or all trap on the field would be a dream come true. But a new synchro or xyz for Lightsworn would be much appreciated either way. I guess we will see within the next month what we are going to get from JotL

This banlist didn't hit a lot of the things I expected and is also pretty different than what a lot of people predicted. The only deck really hit by this is wind-ups, which most people did predict. Sangan was hit in my mind because tour guide was too powerful and sangan itself was too powerful so Konami was able to hit 2 birds with 1 stone in this case. Solemn warning is a good card to limit in my mind because it was able to shut down way to many decks. I like seeing Lumina and Kalut unlimited. Blackwings and Lightsworn are 2 super fun decks and I would love to see them back in the meta but we probably won't see that unless a couple more of their cards come back. The last card I want to talk about it One Day of Peace, I am so happy this card is limited, it was just way too annoying to play against in exodia decks. Overall I am happy with this banlist.

If this banlist is correct then there is a couple things we can predict about the meta. First of all Six-Samurai's will either stay the same or improve. With Goyo Returning, 2 Shi En's, and 3 smoke signals; they become very powerful but they did lose there opening turn with Gateway of the Six. So Really they lost their OTK potential but gained a few cards to make up for that.

Return of Lightsworn and Blackwing? I really hope this is the beginning of the return of both of these decks. Blackwing would be especially great since it hasn't done anything in the meta for a while and it was one of the most fun decks to play. The next thing I would ask for is Blackwhirlwind to 2, they may not even need that though.

Dino Rabbit is hit pretty hard, but can it survive? Even though Rabbit and Tour Guide are at 1, I think this deck is still viable and will continue to be played but the deck won't be as overpowered.

Dragged Down into the Grave at 1? I hate this card and would be fine with banning it but in all honesty, bringing it to 1 was probably enough.

Overall I like this banlist and think it will be a healthy change for the game.

Response to Other's March 2013 Predictions

With the March 2013 banlist right around the corner I've been doing a lot of reading on what others are predicting.  Some of their thoughts are great but others are just out of the question so here are my thoughts on some cards that i think we will see changes to in the next banlist.

Cyber-Stein to Limited

With everything that is available to stop him now ex: Solemn, Veiler, Fiendish Chain.  You could pay the 5000 and get no gain.  

Black Luster Soldier- Envoy of the Beginning stays Limited

This card isn't that broken, like everyone says.  They also knocked Chaos Sorcerer down to one to combat its return.  I feel like it is pretty evened out.

Gateway of the Six stays Limited

Six Samurai is a powerful deck, but the deck got hit pretty hard when Shi En was moved to limited. Since you can only have one i don't feel like it is too powerful. Its also just a continuous spell which can be easily destroyed with MST or Lyla.

Premature Burial to Limited while Monster Reborn moves to Banned

Monster Reborn is a card that i love to use, but its so damn overpowered.  Special summon a monster from either players graveyard at no cost? That's just to much.  At least with Premature Burial the monster has to be from your graveyard and you have to pay 800 LP. You can also destroy Premature Burial and destroy the monster it special summons. 

Lightpulsar Dragon to Limited

Way too overpowered of a dragon. To be able to have 3 is just to many.  I've played against Chaos Dragons enough to know that this is one of their most powerful cards.  It is able to be summoned from the hand or graveyard and whenever it is sent from the field to the grave you can special summon a lv 5 or higher dark dragon. You could have a Red eyes Darkness summoned with this ability and Lighpulsar would come right back onto the field .  Just too strong to have it stay unlimited.

Decks that I feel will get hit hard

Wind-ups- Shark will most likely get limited

Rescue Rabbits- Rabbit will get limited

Dark World- Most of the decks main cards will get limited or semi limited

Deck to get tiered

Fire Kings- If you have ever dueled this deck you probably will hate it.

Vylon- as crazy as it sounds I've dueled this deck and it isn't half bad

Decks we could do without

   Today I would like to talk about the decks that Yu-Gi-Oh could do without. The decks that if all of the cards in the world that belong to these decks burned, we could celebrate. In my mind there are 3 of these decks that truly ruin the game. They are annoying, no fun to battle, and are simple enough that any unskilled player can manage to win over a skilled player with using. So here I am begging Konami, please please please hit these decks on this next banlist.

1. Dark Worlds - The single most annoying deck to ever exist. This deck can win a game in 1 turn just by using Card Destruction. I sometimes have to sit and wait 5 minutes for a dark world deck to pull out all of it's cards because there turns last forever. I want to flip the table every time someone plays Dragged Down. If Konami was only going to hit 1 deck this format, I would hope it would be Dark Worlds.

2. Exodia -  I know this deck isn't that overpowered, but it is still very annoying. Usually you only get a couple of turns to kill the person before they have all of the pieces, and most of those turns you can't do any damage anyways because the opponent used One Day of Peace or have a Waboku. I am not saying this deck should be banned, but some of the cards that prevent the other player from attacking should be hit. One Day of Peace is probably the one that should be hit the hardest.

3. Any deck that uses a ton of back-row cards that prevent the opponent from doing anything - I can not tell you how annoying it is when an opponent just continuously spams you with anti-summoning or anti-effect traps. These cards ruin the game. How am I supposed to do anything when I am not allowed to get any monsters on the field because the opponent has a bunch of trap cards that prevent me from doing any summoning. Konami should either hit a shit ton of trap cards or give me another heavy storm so I can do it myself.

March 2013 Banlist predictions

Here is my guess on a few of the cards that will change on the Banlist come this March. Feel free to comment with your thoughts!

Forbidden

Monster Reborn - This card is very over powered and is a staple in pretty much everything so I'm guessing Konami will do away with it in order to make some cards that require costs more common.

Card Destruction - Since Dark World's are so high in the OCG right now this card will more than likely be one of the cards hit since it can basically win the game for the deck.

Limited

Wind-Up Shark - This card is a XYZ beast, the deck can still be playable with only 1 and will more than likely still be a top tier so taking down to 1 is more than likely.

Dragged Down into the Grave - Again with the Dark Worlds here, this card is just too plain good to have at 3, it's also annoying as all hell to play against.

Card Trooper - This card can be used in so many decks and is a great way to get cards in the graveyard but the extra draw effect at the end makes it a little OP, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see this.

Update: Rescue Rabbit - I initially kept this off of my list because I hope it does not get hit. This deck is not that incredibly powerful and is a great deck for a budget player. However, a lot of people dislike this deck and feel that it is to powerful so I would not be surprised if this card was hit.

Semi-Limited

Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind - I say this only because when Blackwings were hit by the ban list, it was one of the only decks that could swarm the field easily and make OTK's possible. Looking at what we have in the meta right now bringing back Gale to semi-limited wouldn't make this deck over-powered and it was a very popular deck so I'm sure Konami wouldn't mind bringing it back. Another reason I say this is because there is some speculation that a Blackwing or two will be coming out with the new Cosmo Blazer packs and this could mean a return of Blackwings! (Fingers crossed it's true)

Heavy Storm - Call me crazy, but I think this is a very plausible idea. With all the back-row cards being played right now (Solemn Warning, Bottomless Trap Hole, Torrential Tribute and a few others) I could see this card being brought to two in order to speed up the game. All these trap cards are simply getting annoying and are slowing down the game and in my opinion ruining it. But rather than limiting or banning some of these cards, why not just bring in another heavy storm to try to speed things back up.
